TEHRAN, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Tuesday that Iran never left the 2015 nuclear deal, which is different from the U.S. behavior.

"Selling the fake narrative about the need for 'mutual return to the JCPOA (formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action)' doesn't change the reality that unlike the United States, Iran never left the deal," Khatibzadeh tweeted.

The remarks by the Iranian spokesman were in response to recent comments made by U.S. officials, including U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley and U.S. State Department Spokesperson Ned Price, who called for "a mutual return to compliance" to the JCPOA.

The debate between Tehran and Washington came just a few days ahead of the resumption of long-delayed nuclear talks between Iran and other remaining parties to the JCPOA, aimed at the revival of the accord by urging the U.S. and Iran to return to their commitments in exchange for the removal of anti-Iran sanctions.
