KHARTOUM, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Transitional Sovereign Council on Thursday appointed Abdul-Aziz Fath Al-Rahman Abdeen as new Chief Justice, according to a council spokesperson.

"The council has appointed Abdul-Aziz Fath Al-Rahman Abdeen as chief justice, as part of completing the state's judicial and legal structures," Salma Abdul-Jabbar Al-Mubarak, the council's spokesperson, said in a statement.

She said that the council would continue its deliberations to appoint the Attorney General toward completion of the judicial and legal institutions to consolidate the rule of law.

It is to be noted that Abdeen has been acting chief justice since the General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Force Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan declared a state of emergency on Oct. 25 and dissolved the Sovereign Council and the cabinet. Enditem
