ABUJA -- At least 10 villagers were killed early Friday when a group of unknown gunmen attacked a community in central Nigeria's Plateau state, the police said.

Uba Ogba, the spokesman for the police in the Plateau state, told reporters in Jos, the capital city of the state, that over 30 houses were razed by the gunmen who attacked the Ta'agbe community of Miango Chiefdom in the Bassa local government area of the state. (Nigeria-Gunmen-Attack)

PARIS -- The French government announced on Friday to suspend immediately flights coming from the southern part of Africa following the detection of a new COVID-19 variant in South Africa.

In a press release published Friday by the prime minister's office, travellers from South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia and Eswatini, will not be able to enter French territory, regardless of their vaccination status. (France-Flights Suspended-Southern African countries)

NEW DELHI/YANGON -- A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit the India-Myanmar border area on Friday morning, according to India's National Center for Seismology.

The earthquake occurred at 5:15 a.m. local time, it said.

"The epicenter of the earthquake was in Myanmar located at 22.77 degrees north latitude and 93.23 degrees east longitude," it said. "The depth of the earthquake was 12 km." (India-Earthquake)

TRIPOLI -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on Thursday said it evacuated 93 refugees from Libya to Italy on a chartered flight.

The group, the first of 500 to be evacuated under a new mechanism for humanitarian admissions, included children, women at risk, survivors of violence and torture, and people with serious medical conditions, the UNHCR said in a statement. (Libya-Refugees) Enditem
