TUNIS -- The Tunisian maritime guard on Friday rescued 487 illegal immigrants off the southeastern province of Sfax, the country's defense ministry said in a statement.

"These illegal immigrants could have lost their lives when their boat sailing toward the Italian coasts capsized off the island of Kerkennah in Sfax," said the ministry statement. (Tunisia-Immigrants-Rescue)

KAMPALA -- A total of 900 villages in Uganda have been connected to the world via satellite television. They are part of a project that China promised at the 2015 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Johannesburg, South Africa, to connect 10,000 African villages to satellite TV.

Zhang Lizhong, Chinese ambassador to Uganda, while speaking at the closure of the project in Uganda on Friday, said the project which started in 2018 in the country was implemented in two phases benefiting about one million people in 900 villages. (Uganda-Satellite TV-Startimes-FOCAC)

TEHRAN -- Iran's health ministry on Friday reported 4,384 new COVID-19 cases, raising the country's total infections to 6,102,056.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Friday reported 24,002 new COVID-19 cases, raising its total tally of infections to 8,700,641, according to its health ministry.
