SYDNEY -- The Australian states of New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria, as two major entry ports of the country, have introduced 72-hour isolation requirements for all international arrivals as health authorities scramble to sequence for the new Omicron variant in arrivals from southern African countries.

NSW health authorities confirmed on Sunday morning two of 14 arrivals from southern African countries had tested positive for COVID-19 and had begun urgent genomic sequencing for the Omicron variant. (Australia-COVID-19-Omicron variant)

UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday welcomed the trilateral meeting between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia over the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

LAGOS -- The Nigerian government has lifted the suspension it placed on the Emirates from flying to and from the West African country without conditions.

NEW DELHI -- India's exports of gems and jewellery during the first seven months of this financial year (up to October) has been 23.62 billion U.S. dollars, as compared to 11.69 billion U.S. dollars in last financial year, said the country's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday.
