RAMALLAH, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Monday called on the United States and the European Union to carry out practical actions against the Israeli demolition of Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a press statement that its call came after the Israeli court rejected an appeal against the decision to demolish 58 homes in the Wadi Yasoul neighborhood, south of al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

The move is a green light for the demolition of dozens of Palestinian homes in the neighborhood for purely settlement purposes as well as the displacement of hundreds of residents, said the statement.

On Sunday, an Israeli court in Jerusalem rejected the appeal submitted by the residents of the neighborhood regarding the demolition of 58 homes. It gave the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem a decision to carry out the demolition at any time.

Israel captured territories in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem, which are claimed by the Palestinians, in the 1967 Middle East war and has controlled them ever since. In 2005, Israel pulled out from the Gaza Strip. Enditem
