HONG KONG -- Hong Kong shares ended lower Tuesday, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index down 1.58 percent to close at 23,475.26 points.

The index touched a new one-year low, with six gainers and 54 decliners for its components.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 1.53 percent to end at 8,368.49 points. The Hang Seng Tech index fell 1.16 percent to close at 6,028.63 points. (Hong Kong-Hang Seng Index-Tech)

NEW DELHI -- Admiral R Hari Kumar Tuesday took charge as the new chief of the Indian navy, a spokesperson said.

Kumar took charge following the retirement of Admiral Karambir Singh from service.

"Admiral R Hari Kumar today assumes charge as the 25th Chief of the Naval Staff," an Indian navy spokesperson in a brief statement said. (India-Hari Kumar-Navy)

TOKYO -- Japan confirmed the first case infected with the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 in the country, the Japanese government said Tuesday.

The infected person is a man in his 30s arriving from Namibia, who tested positive for the COVID-19 at Narita airport near Tokyo upon his arrival on Sunday. (Japan-Omicron Case-1st LD)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's eastern Punjab province reported 81 new dengue fever cases and two more deaths during the last 24 hours, Secretary of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department of Punjab Imran Sikandar Baloch said Tuesday.

According to the official, the province has recorded 25,094 cases, including 145 deaths, since the start of this year. (Pakistan-Dengue Fever) Enditem
