SUVA, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- About 57 percent of the 169,185 eligible adult population in Vanuatu have received at least one dose of either Sinopharm or AstraZeneca vaccine.

Vanuatu's Ministry of Health confirmed on Friday that 27 percent of Vanuatu's adults in high priority areas are fully vaccinated against coronavirus while 66 percent have received one dose, according to Vanuatu's English daily newspaper, Daily Post.

High priority areas in Vanuatu are locations identified as being at higher risk of COVID-19 importation or transmission.

Vaccination for people above 18 is ongoing in the island nation.

Vanuatu, an island nation with a population of more than 310,000, started the rollout of the national vaccination program in June this year and over 141,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have since then been administered.

Vanuatu has included China-donated vaccine doses in its national vaccination program.

In June, the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Chinese government arrived in Vanuatu, and the second batch arrived in November.

Vanuatu's Ministry of Health is reportedly working to bring in additional vaccines to enable full vaccination of the country's eligible population.

The single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected to arrive this month. Enditem
