World Insights: One must know CPC to know China, experts say

BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech via video at the opening ceremony of the 2021 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou) on Thursday in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province.

The speech explained the great significance of the century-long journey of the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the development of the world, experts and scholars have said, adding that they agree one must learn to understand the CPC to understand China today.

They also noted the experience and wisdom of the CPC in governing the party and the country are worth learning from and that all countries should unite and actively promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Mahmoud Allam, Egypt's former ambassador to China, said that it is very important to understand China in today's world.

President Xi's speech and the conference, Allam pointed out, are of great significance to promoting communication between China and the world, which have also illustrated the CPC's determination to continue to lead China's development.

Cavince Adhere, a Kenya-based international relations scholar, said that the CPC "has been a central actor in fashioning a new China that we know today."

He said the CPC, with its people-centered policies, has led China to overcome some of the most intractable challenges.

"Understanding the CPC is a good window to appreciate the views, values and aspirations of the whole Chinese society," the scholar said. "Over the years, the CPC has implemented far-reaching reforms touching on governance, political participation, economic modernization and international outreach."

Fazal Ur Rahman, director of the Pakistan Institute of China Studies at the University of Sargodha, said that today's China should be understood through the prism of the work of the CPC, underlining that "the centrality of the people would remain prime in the future course of policy formulation in China."

Yevgeny Zaitsev, head of the Center for Russian-Chinese Studies at Russia's Lomonosov Moscow State University, said that the completion of the construction of a moderately prosperous society is a visible confirmation that the CPC's plans are indeed aimed at the practical implementation of the main slogan -- Serve the People.
