RAMALLAH, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Saturday warned against Israeli government's approval of settlement plans, saying that it includes the construction of 1,058 settlement units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The Israeli government "is trying to race against time to impose facts on the ground in the occupied Palestinian territories," Palestinian Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a statement.
"It's obvious that this government wants to prevent the establishment of a geographically contiguous Palestinian state on 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital," he added.
He called on the international community "to take practical steps to prevent Israel from implementing its dangerous settlement plans."
The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) on Saturday said Israel has finally approved to establish more than 1,000 settlement units.
According to Israeli and Palestinian estimates, about 650,000 Israeli settlers live in 164 settlements and 124 outposts in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Israeli settlement is one of the thorniest issues in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and one of the main reasons for derailing the last round of direct peace negotiations between the two sides. Enditem
