BRAZZAVILLE, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso met with Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, on Sunday.

Yang conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President Sassou. With the care and leadership of the two heads of state, the comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership between the two countries has made great progress, the senior Chinese diplomat said.

China is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with the Republic of the Congo, and firmly support each other on issues of core concerns, so as to reflect the characteristics and high level of the comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership, said Yang.

Yang said China will take the opportunity of the implementation of the outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to continue supporting the Republic of the Congo in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, further explore and foster new convergence and growth points of cooperation, orderly advance cooperation in different areas, including infrastructure and industrial parks, so as to make contributions to the economic and social development of the Republic of the Congo.

Yang said as developing countries, China and the Republic of the Congo share broad consensus on many major international issues, adding that the two sides should deepen close cooperation, promote the building of a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era, jointly oppose unilateralism, and safeguard real multilateralism, international equity and justice as well as the common interests of the developing countries.

Sassou asked Yang to convey his best wishes to President Xi Jinping, and congratulated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. The Republic of the Congo highly appreciates the comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership between the two countries and thanked China for providing valuable support for the fight against COVID-19 and the economic recovery, Sassou said.

Sassou said the Republic of the Congo adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to consolidate mutual political trust with China, adding that the Republic of the Congo is looking forward to further exploring cooperation with China in different areas, including energy, processing, transportation, and agriculture.

The Republic of the Congo is ready to strengthen coordination with the Chinese side on affairs of the United Nations and the regional issues in Africa, oppose unilateral actions, support multilateralism, and jointly promote peaceful development in Africa and in the world, said the Congolese President.

Yang also met with Jean-Claude Gakosso, minister for foreign affairs of the Republic of the Congo on Sunday. Enditem
