False ideological dichotomy to intensify global polarization, Australian scholar argues

CANBERRA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- A "false ideological dichotomy" will intensify global polarization and fuel geopolitical competition, an Australian scholar has recently argued.

In an article published on website East Asia Forum, He Baogang, professor and chair of International Relations at Deakin University, wrote that framing U.S.-China competition "in terms of democracy versus autocracy is a poor strategy."

Overplaying the democracy-versus-autocracy narrative, the professor warned, "could foster feelings of alienation and resentment in Asia," adding that "international solidarity is desperately needed to deal with climate change and other shared challenges." Enditem
