DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Two Tanzanian nationals are being held by police for questioning in connection with trafficking of 51 illegal Ethiopian migrants, police said on Tuesday.

Onesmo Lyanga, the Dodoma regional police commander, said the two suspects were arrested on Sunday at 9 a.m. local time in Biteko village in Kondoa district.

"The duo was arrested while they were ferrying the Ethiopian illegal migrants in a truck," Lyanga told a press conference in the capital Dodoma.

He said the truck ferrying the Ethiopian migrants was intercepted at a road block along the Kondoa-Arusha highway, adding that the truck was heading to Iringa region from Kilimanjaro region.

Lyanga said police are also investigating to establish a syndicate that is behind human trafficking.

"The syndicate will be dismantled and its members be prosecuted," warned the police official.

Adam Mkuyu, a senior immigration official for Dodoma region, appealed to members of the public to collaborate with law enforcers in identifying human traffickers. Enditem
