RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian Serie A champions Atletico Mineiro have signed forward Ademir Santos on a free transfer as they bolster an attack that already includes Brazil international winger Hulk and Spain striker Diego Costa.

Ademir joins the Belo Horizonte club from local rivals America Mineiro, with whom his contract expired in December. The 26-year-old will be tied to Atletico until December 2024.

"One of the standout players of Brazilian football last season, the striker is our first signing for 2022," read a statement on Atletico's official website on Saturday.

Ademir scored 15 goals and provided five assists in 44 games last year, helping America qualify for the Copa Libertadores for the first time in the club's 107-year history.

Having completed a routine medical exam, Ademir is expected to begin training with his new teammates later this month.

"I'm very happy to be a part of this club," he told TV Galo. "It's an incredible feeling to fulfil this dream. I'm sure I will be very happy here and that we'll have a lot of success together." Enditem
