ALGIERS, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Algeria's state-owned carrier, Air Algerie, on Monday was forced to re-schedule flights for the second day in a row over thick fog that sweeps through the coastal region of the country.

"Due to zero visibility, and adverse weather conditions (freezing fog), all of Air Algerie flights are affected by disruptions," said the Algerian carrier on its official Twitter account, adding that this alert "remains in effect" until climatic conditions improve.

In addition to the preventive measures taken by the national company, several flight tracker websites, posted images showing foreign airplanes, serving in particular the capital Algiers, making U-turn when approaching the Algerian coast because of lack of visibility.

Dense fog has been observed in recent days over the northern region of Algeria, as road safety authorities also advised road users to drive carefully. Enditem
