BRATISLAVA, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- BC Prievidza's wait for the first victory in the new season of the Slovak Basketball League is over as the struggling team edged past MBK Banik Handlova 90-87 on Wednesday.
After 14 consecutive defeats, BC Prievidza's first victory of the season did not come easy to the disheartened players of the two-time SBL champion (2012 and 2018).
The home team had a slight edge throughout the whole game, even built a 12-point lead in the final period, but Handlova managed to tie the game at 85-85 with only a minute and a half left on the clock.
However, Prievidza showed the stronger nerve in the final moments and celebrated the first win.
Handlova's American guard DeAndre Abram had another great night with a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds, but failed to lead his team to victory this time.
Levice Patriots have proven once again that they are the true leaders of the SBL standings as the team achieved an 80-73 victory over BC Komarno.
Elsewhere, the penultimate team Iskra Svit lost to Spis Knights 99-80 while Inter Bratislava edged past BKM Lucenec 93-92. Enditem
