LONDON, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.81 percent, or 60.35 points, to close at 7,551.72 points.
Antofagasta, a copper mining company, soared 7.49 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. BHP Group, a global resources company, and Anglo American, a globally diversified mining business, increased by 4.46 percent and 3.87 percent, respectively.
Taylor Wimpey, a Britain-based housebuilding company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 4.80 percent. Smith & Nephew, a British multinational medical equipment manufacturing company, dropped 4.56 percent.
