JERUSALEM, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli Ministry of Health announced Tuesday that 25 million to 30 million rapid COVID-19 antigen test kits will be provided for free to Israel's citizens starting next week.

The program is catered to various sectors and focuses on the vulnerable population, the ministry said in a statement.

It added that about 2.5 million kits will go to geriatric hospitals and nursing homes, and 9 million more will be given to welfare-supported families.

Each school or kindergarten student will be provided with at least six kits. University students will also be covered by the program.

Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz and Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman launched the program in a bid to keep the nation's economy functional while maintaining public health, the ministry said.

"We are committed to providing all tools to maintain the health of every person in Israel, along with the preservation of the economy, education and life alongside the coronavirus," Horowitz was quoted as saying. Enditem
