MADRID -- Five people were killed and several injured in a fire burning at a retirement home over the night to Wednesday in the city of Valencia, eastern Spain, local media cited emergency services as saying.

According to local firefighters' tweet, the fire broke out at about 11:21 p.m. (2221 GMT) Tuesday, forcing the evacuation of 70 residents. (Spain-Fire-Deaths)

HAVANA -- The United States saw up to 17 mass shootings by Jan. 15 in the new year, Cuba-based news agency Prensa Latin reported over the weekend.

RAMALLAH -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday was unanimously supported by the Fatah party's central committee to continue as chairman of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Fatah Movement, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported.
