LIMA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Veteran forwards Paolo Guerrero and Jefferson Farfan have been left out of Peru's squad for World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Ecuador, head coach Ricardo Gareca said on Friday.

Guerrero, Peru's all-time leading scorer with 38 goals in 107 international matches, has not played in almost four months and remains without a club after parting ways with Brazil's Internacional in October.

Farfan has struggled for form and fitness since joining Alianza Lima last March, managing just seven goals in 22 appearances for the Peruvian top-flight club.

"Both players are fundamental [to the national team] because of their attitude, desire and professionalism," Gareca told reporters. "They are trying to get back to their best so that they can continue their careers and also help the national team.

"We are supporting them as much as we can, but that does not guarantee them a call-up. There have to be other things, unfortunately."

There was better news for forward Santiago Ormeno, who earned a recall following his impressive form for Mexican club Leon. Gareca also included locally based players Alex Valera, Jairo Concha and Renzo Garces.

Peru will play Colombia in Barranquilla next Friday and Ecuador in Lima four days later. The Blanquirroja are currently fifth in the South American zone standings, behind fourth-placed Colombia on goal difference. Enditem
