TEHRAN -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Wednesday that Iran seeks to promote the relationship with its northern neighbor Azerbaijan.

Ties between Iran and Azerbaijan are based on the beliefs of the people of the two countries and have been established throughout history, Raisi made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Azerbaijan's Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov, according to Iran's presidential website. TUNIS -- Tunisian government announced on Wednesday that the nationwide curfew in the country has been extended for additional two weeks to curb the spread of COVID-19.

TEHRAN -- The defense ministers of Iran and Azerbaijan met on Wednesday in Iran's capital Tehran to discuss regional issues and military cooperation, official news agency IRNA reported.

Thanks to historical and cultural commonalities between Iran and Azerbaijan, the two neighbors should develop relations and reinforce cooperation in defense and security sectors, Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani said following meetings with his Azerbaijani counterpart Zakir Hasanov. BEIRUT -- Lebanon on Wednesday registered 8,639 COVID-19 infections, the highest daily cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, its Health Ministry reported.
