BRUSSELS, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Two days ahead of the Chinese New Year, over a dozen Belgian children from the LongDragon School in Ghent took part in celebrations on Sunday at the China Cultural Center in Brussels, by drawing hand-made postcards to symbolize the Year of the Tiger.

The children learned how to write the Chinese character and pictogram 'Fu' (luck), made paper cuttings and learned about the 12 Chinese signs of the Zodiac, all of which bears significance for the annual Chinese festive season.

In attendance at the event were families of the children, teachers, as well as LongDragon school founder Hannes Van Cauwenberghe, a Belgian student who studied at China's Tongji University and holds a degree in engineering.

"On the eve of the Chinese Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger, it is really meaningful to bring school teachers, students and parents to Brussels to experience Chinese culture in Brussels," he said.

The LongDragon School was founded in Belgium's third-biggest city and capital of Belgium's Flanders Region, Ghent, and works with children aged between six and 12 with an interest in Chinese culture.

"On the occasion of the Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger and the Beijing Winter Olympics, the children's hand-painted postcards showcased how Chinese and Belgian children actively participated together in the creation of these works," said Liu Hongge, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese embassy in Belgium at the event.

This event is one of the "Happy Chinese New Year" series of celebration activities of the Chinese Embassy in Belgium.

The year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium, showing extensive cooperation in many fields including new partnerships between Chinese and Belgian universities in areas like personnel training, scientific research and innovation.

Chinese language teaching also has a solid foundation in Belgium. In 2020, the winner of the "Chinese Bridge" language competition for foreign college students was Lucas Deckers from Belgium. Enditem
