RIO DE JANEIRO, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Botafogo have reached an agreement to sign Argentina international center-back Victor Cuesta on loan, the Brazilian club said on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old, who has two years left on his contract with Botafogo's domestic rivals Internacional, will be tied to the Rio de Janeiro outfit until the end of the year.

"The defender Victor Cuesta is Botafogo's newest signing," read a brief statement on the club's official website. "The date of his official presentation will be announced shortly."

Cuesta has been capped three times for Argentina in a career that has included spells at Argentine clubs Arsenal de Sarandi, Defensa y Justicia, Huracan and Independiente.

Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo returned to the country's top football tier last November after winning the 2021 Serie B title.

In December, American businessman John Textor bought a controlling stake in the club for an undisclosed amount. Enditem
