KIGALI, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese community in Rwanda on Friday launched a library at A-Link Chinese Restaurant in Kimihurura of Kigali, the Rwandan capital.

The library, which has so far been equipped with more than 5,000 books in Chinese, Korean and English languages among others, aims at promoting book reading culture among the Rwandan population. The books' topics range from literature, science, culture, technology, politics and history.

"We established this library to enable Rwandans, Chinese and other people willing to study in China, work or conduct business with the Chinese community to read books about China which will promote knowledge exchange among the Chinese and Rwandan community," Yin Qingri, one of the members of the Chinese community behind the launch of the library, told Xinhua in an interview at the event. "We are soon getting more books donated by libraries in China as well as from our friends in China to stock this library. The aim is to enable many Rwandan citizens to have access to books and eventually promote a reading culture which will deepen educational, academic and cultural exchange."

Speaking at the event, James Ndahiro, a former Rwandan member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), said that the Chinese community having thought of bringing books from China and establishing a public library in Rwanda will promote learning, academic and cultural exchange between Chinese and the Rwandan people.

"As Rwandans, we shall learn a lot from Chinese literature through reading these books. Books will help us to learn from each other. Our cultural exchanges are useful not only for our way of thinking, but allowing us to appreciate diversity which promotes development, skills, hope and friendship between societies," said Ndahiro.

He said that the library will enable Rwandan students who have traveled, not traveled or are willing to travel to China to appreciate and learn a lot of knowledge that will help them to shape their future. Enditem
