Microsoft reports Q3 results with revenue up 18 pct

SAN FRANCISCO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Microsoft posted Tuesday its better-than-expected revenue of 49.4 billion U.S. dollars in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2022 ending March 31, up 18 percent from the same period last year.

The company generated quarterly net profits of 16.7 billion dollars, an increase of 8 percent year on year, while diluted earnings per share went up 9 percent to reach 2.22 dollars. Its operating income was 20.4 billion dollars and increased 19 percent, Microsoft said in its third quarter of 2022 fiscal year report.

The company's revenue in Productivity and Business Processes was 15.8 billion dollars, an increase of 17 percent. Revenue in More Personal Computing was 14.5 billion dollars and increased 11 percent.

Microsoft returned 12.4 billion dollars to shareholders in the form of share repurchases and dividends in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2022, an increase of 25 percent compared to the third quarter of the fiscal year 2021.

"Continued customer commitment to our cloud platform and strong sales execution drove better than expected commercial bookings growth of 28 percent and Microsoft Cloud revenue of 23.4 billion dollars, up 32 percent year over year," said Amy Hood, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Microsoft.

"Going forward, digital technology will be the key input that powers the world's economic output," said Satya Nadella, chairman and chief executive officer of Microsoft.
