SEOUL, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Sentiment among South Korean consumers over economic situations improved in April due to the lifting of social-distancing guidelines, central bank data showed Wednesday.
The composite consumer sentiment index (CCSI) logged 103.8 in April, up 0.6 points from the prior month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
The index kept rising for the second consecutive month as the government lifted all anti-COVID-19 measures, such as a business curfew and a cap on private gatherings, except for mask mandate beginning April 18.
The South Korean health authorities estimated that the Omicron variant-driven resurgence may have peaked in the middle of March.
Sub-indices showed mixed results, the index for the current state of living gained 2 points, but outlook for the state of living dipped 1 point in April compared to the previous month.
The figures for future household income and spending were unchanged at 99 and 114 each, but the index for current economic situation advanced 3 points.
Inflation expectations, which gauge outlook among consumers over headline inflation for the next 12 months, rose 0.2 percentage points over the month to 3.1 percent in April. Enditem
