SOFIA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) on Friday confirmed four outbreaks of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu) Type A virus, all of them in one town.

The agency said on its website that the virus was detected in two duck farms, one hen farm and one broiler farm in the town of Slavyanovo, northern Bulgaria.

A total of more than 160,000 poultry are raised at the four farms, the BFSA said, adding that the suspicion of the disease arose due to the increased mortality.

All measures would be taken to eradicate the outbreaks, it said. The poultry at the farms would be culled.

A cluster of four outbreaks of the same virus was reported in the same town in February 2021. Enditem
