PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia started to build a 1.5-billion-U.S. dollar logistics and multi-purpose seaport on Thursday in the southwestern Kampot province, aiming to enhance the kingdom's logistics and transportation sector, officials said.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Bokor city, Deputy Prime Minister Chea Sophara, who is also minister of land management, urban planning and construction, said the project is invested by local company Kampot Logistics and Port and the construction is undertaken by the Shanghai Construction Group and the China Road and Bridge Corporation. VIENTIANE -- The World Bank expects to support 11 projects in Laos at a cost of about 395 million U.S. dollars from 2022 to 2026, the Vientiane Times said on Thursday.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand recorded 8,609 new community cases of COVID-19, the ministry of health said on Thursday.

Among the new community infections, 2,796 were reported in the largest city Auckland, the ministry said in a statement.

SYDNEY -- Australia's national airline, Qantas, has struck a 614 million Australian dollar (about 444 million U.S. dollar) deal to buy airline service company Alliance Aviation Services in a bid to grow its servicing of the resource sector.
