RIO DE JANEIRO, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Brazil legend Pele has heaped praise on compatriot Rodrygo Goes after the forward's decisive role in Real Madrid's victory over Manchester City in the Champions League semifinals.
Rodrygo came off the bench to score two stoppage-time goals on Wednesday as Real Madrid recovered from a 5-3 deficit to level the tie 5-5 at the Bernabeu.
Karim Benzema then converted a 95th-minute penalty to complete a remarkable turnaround and earn the Spanish side a place in the final against Liverpool at Stade de France on May 28.
"I always knew the day to congratulate you would come, my friend," Pele said in an Instagram post alongside a photograph of the pair both wearing Brazil national team shirts.
"There is no other way for those who work hard and love what they do. You are enlightened and you will still bring us many joys, Rodrygo Goes. I can't wait to watch the final!
The 21-year-old showed his gratitude by quickly responding to the 81-year-old, who is the only player to win the World Cup three times.
"Thanks for these words, King. I will never forget your advice and I will be eternally grateful." Enditem
