Laos to send over 400 athletes to 31st SEA Games in Vietnam

VIENTIANE, May 6 (Xinhua) -- More than 400 athletes from Laos are to participate in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam from May 12 to 23.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Chansamone Chanyalath, and Minister of Education and Sports, Phout Simmalavong, held a press conference in Laos' capital Vientiane on Thursday to announce the country's participation at the Games.

Laos is to send teams to compete in petanque, billiards, kickboxing, Lao and Thai boxing, wushu, cycling, taekwondo, Sepak Takraw, pencak silat, karate, judo, professional wrestling, archery, running, weightlifting, vovinam and swimming.

Other sports at the Games are badminton, football, tennis, volleyball, golf, gymnastics, E-sports, shooting, table tennis, body building and dance sports.

Lao wushu team, comprising five male and two female athletes, is expected to bring home a gold medal.

In 2019, Lao athletes competed in 24 sports at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines, winning a gold medal in kickboxing, as well as five silver and 29 bronze medals. Enditem
