HANOI, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded 3,345 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, down by 474 from Friday, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new infections were all domestically transmitted, and reported in 55 provinces and cities.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi remained the epidemic hotspot with 630 new cases registered on Saturday, followed by the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc with 222 and Phu Tho with 179.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 10,673,915 with 43,055 deaths in Vietnam. Nationwide, as many as 9,318,525 COVID-19 patients, or more than 87 percent of the total infections, have so far recovered.

More than 215.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the Southeast Asian country, including more than 196.3 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity. As of Saturday, it has registered nearly 10.7 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in April 2021, said the health ministry. Enditem
