ISLAMABAD, May 11 (Xinhua) -- A collision between a passenger van and a truck killed at least 15 people and injured 10 others on Wednesday in Pakistan's southern Sindh province, police and rescue officials said.

The van carrying over 25 passengers was hit by the truck coming from the opposite direction at the Indus Highway in the Manjhand area in Jamshoro district of the province, Senior Superintendent of Police Jamshoro Javed Ahmed Baloch told Xinhua.

The officer said that women and children were among those killed, adding that the ill-fated passenger van was on its way to Hyderabad city from Dadu district when the accident occurred.

Police said that the cause of the accident is not yet known and a full-fledged investigation has been launched into the matter.

Following the crash, rescue teams and police officers arrived at the scene and transported all of the injured to a nearby hospital.

Hospital officials feared that the death toll might further rise as several of the injured were in critical condition with major fractures and head injuries.

Syed Murad Ali Shah, chief minister of Sindh, expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the accident. He also directed that the injured be given the best medical care possible. Enditem
