LOME, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Eight soldiers were killed and 13 others injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen in the early morning of Wednesday in the north of Togo, near the border with Burkina Faso, announced the government in a statement.
At around 3 a.m., local time, Wednesday, a position of the anti-terrorist squad in the Kpendjal prefecture, the northern region of Togo, was the target of a violent terrorist attack carried out by a group of unidentified and heavily armed individuals. This attack left eight members of the security forces dead and 13 more injured, according to the statement.
"The government strongly condemns this cowardly and barbaric attack," said the statement, while reassuring the entire population of the determination of the defense and security forces to protect the country.
Togo is bordered to the north by Burkina Faso, a Sahelian West African country that has been facing a series of terrorist attacks since 2015. Enditem
