Suarez, Cavani lead Uruguay squad for friendlies

MONTEVIDEO, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Veteran strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have been included in Uruguay's squad for friendlies against Mexico, the United States and Jamaica, the South American country's football association said on Friday.

Celeste manager Diego Alonso also called up Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez, Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur and Real Madrid playmaker Federico Valverde in his preliminary 35-man squad.

Uruguay will meet Mexico in Arizona on June 2, the United States in Kansas City on June 5 and Jamaica in Montevideo on June 11.

Alonso has said he will use the matches to help prepare for the World Cup in Qatar, to be played from November 21 to December 18.

Uruguay have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, Ghana and South Korea.

Following is the Uruguay squad:

Goalkeepers: Fernando Muslera, Sergio Rochet, Sebastian Sosa, Guillermo de Amores.

Defenders: Diego Godin, Jose Maria Gimenez, Ronald Araujo, Sebastian Coates, Martin Caceres, Sebastian Caceres, Leandro Cabrera, Guillermo Varela, Damian Suarez, Matias Vina, Mathias Olivera.

Midfielders: Lucas Torreira, Matias Vecino, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mauro Arambarri, Manuel Ugarte, Fernando Gorriaran, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Facundo Torres Nicolas de la Cruz, Federico Valverde, Facundo Pellistri, Agustin Canobbio, Brian Ocampo.

Forwards: Martin Satriano, Diego Rossi, Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, Darwin Nunez, Maximiliano Gomez and Nicolas Lopez. Enditem
