KABUL, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan National Police confiscated mass weapons and ammunition and arrested four people in three provinces in recent days, the country's Ministry of Interior said on Monday.

In Qarabagh district of the eastern Ghazni province, police seized a truck and confiscated 47 assault rifles, three heavy machine guns and a large quantity of ammunition, the ministry said in a statement.

Three suspects trying to transport the weapons to a neighboring country were arrested, according to the statement.

"In the central Daykundi province, as a result of a special operation conducted by police and intelligence forces, five different weapons and tens of thousands of different types of ammunition were seized," the statement said.

The statement added that one man was arrested and six guns and thousands of bullets were confiscated after the police conducted an operation in Dand district in southern Kandahar province.

The Taliban-led caretaker government has ordered security forces to confiscate weapons from outside security organizations. Enditem
