JAKARTA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- A 6.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Indonesia's western province of Bengkulu early Tuesday, but no tsunami is expected, the meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The quake hit at 01:58 a.m. local time (1858 GMT Monday), with the epicenter at 51 km southwest of Enggano Island and the shallow of 10 km under seabed. There was no initial report of damages or casualty, the agency said.

"The tremors were felt in North Bengkulu district, but did not trigger panic among residents. So far, there was no report of house or building destroyed, or those wounded or killed," Head of Emergency Unit of Provincial Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency Khristian Hermansyah told Xinhua over phone.

The official said the personnel of the local disaster management and mitigation agency will keep conducting risk assessment. Enditem
