ADDIS ABABA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Tuesday disclosed it has only received 54.2 percent of 24 million U.S. dollars it requires to meet the needs of 25.9 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia.

In a UNFPA Situation Report it published, UNFPA stated it needs the funds to meet the needs of 25.9 million people affected by man-made disasters as well as natural disasters.

The UNFPA funding appeal to Ethiopia also includes funds needed to meet the needs of 4.2 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

UNFPA aims to provide sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, logistics and operations as well as communications and advocacy programs.

The UNFPA statement said conflict and displacement in northern Ethiopia has left more than nine million in need of humanitarian assistance, while severe drought is already affecting 6.8 million people across eastern and southern parts of Ethiopia.

"Across three regions of Ethiopia, Amhara, Afar and Tigray, more than 2.1 million people are estimated to have been displaced as a result of conflict and 9.4 million people need humanitarian assistance," the UNFPA statement disclosed. Enditem
