TUNIS, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The health situation in Tunisia is under control despite a relatively high number of COVID-19 cases in the country, private radio station Mosaique FM reported Thursday.

"The COVID-19 test positivity rate reached 4.11 percent last week," Amine Slim, a member of Tunisian scientific committee for the fight against the coronavirus, was quoted as saying.

"We cannot speak of a sixth wave as long as this rate has not reached 5 percent," the health official noted.

Slim said the health situation is expected to improve with rising temperatures.

Tunisia Health Ministry reported a total of 592 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total tally to 4,607,327 in the week of May 9.

The death toll from the virus rose by five to 28,628 in the North African country, while the total number of recoveries reached 1,027,699, the ministry said in a statement. Enditem
