Malaysia reports 2,063 new COVID-19 infections, 5 more deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 2,063 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Friday, bringing the national total to 4,487,482, according to the health ministry.

There are three new imported cases, with 2,060 being local transmissions, data released by the ministry showed.

Five more deaths have been reported, taking the death toll to 35,638.

The ministry reported 2,618 new recoveries, lifting the total number of cured and discharged to 4,422,615.

There are 29,229 active cases, with 36 being held in intensive care and 20 of those in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 20,998 vaccine doses administered on Friday and 85.5 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 82.6 percent are fully vaccinated and 49.2 percent have received boosters. Enditem
