Singapore reports 5,727 new COVID-19 cases

SINGAPORE, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Singapore reported 5,727 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total tally to 1,278,113.

Of the new cases, 426 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 5,301 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 416 were local transmissions and 10 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 5,207 local transmissions and 94 imported cases, respectively.

A total of 297 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with five cases in intensive care units.

One more patient has died from complications due to COVID-19 infection, taking the death toll to 1,378, the ministry said. Enditem
