OUAGADOUGOU -- At least 50 civilians of Madjoari in eastern Burkina Faso were killed on Wednesday in an armed attack, the East Region governor Hubert Yameogo said in a statement on Thursday.

Residents from the Madjoari town who were trying to reach Nadiagou, in the town of Pama, were targeted on Wednesday by unidentified armed men, according to the statement. (Burkina Faso-Terrorism-Attack)

MADRID -- The number of confirmed monkeypox cases in Spain rose to 84 on Thursday after the country's Ministry of Health reported another 25 new cases.

BUDAPEST -- The Hungarian government said Thursday it would impose a total of 800 billion forints (2.2 billion U.S. dollars) of windfall taxes, mostly on the financial and energy sectors, to curb inflation and finance rising defense costs.

The new measures will apply for 2022 and 2023. The special taxes would be levied over eight sectors that include banking, insurance, energy, retail, telecommunications, airlines, and pharmaceutical distribution. An advertising tax would also return from January 2023. (Hungary-Economy)

KAMPALA -- Five people were on Thursday killed in the western Uganda district of Kyegegwa after a passenger service vehicle they were traveling in rolled off the highway, police said.
