NEW DELHI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- A Dragon Boat Festival has been held in Kolkata, capital of India's West Bengal State, by the Consulate General of China in Kolkata and various local Chinese community organizations.
Consul General Zha Liyou said on Sunday that after six editions of Dragon Boat Festival in Kolkata, the 2022 festival has become another landmark cultural event that is entirely integrated with community in East India and friendship in town that is committed to people-to-people exchanges between China and India.
"We should be able to draw inspiration from our civilizations, identify and tell our good stories, great stories, success stories and stories of compassion to be shared by the billions of Chinese and Indians, just as we are doing now," he said.
"Let us join hand, promote people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation to build up a better future for all of us," he said.
More than 1,500 people participated in the festival, including Members of Indian Parliament Sudip Bandopadhay, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Nadimul Haque, Binod Kumar, Communist Party of India (M) State Secretary of West Bengal Mohammed Salim, diplomats from Thailand, Bangladesh and Bhutan in Kolkata and some local people.
Pandopadhay and other guests said on the occasion that through this event they get to know more about traditional Chinese culture and that they are glad to recognize the important contribution made by the Chinese communities for Kolkata.
The audience also enjoyed a splendid lion dance, special theatrical performances and some Chinese food during the festival. Enditem
