TUNIS, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia and Britain signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on British technical and financial support for the development of renewable energies in Tunisia, the Tunisian press agency Tunis Afrique Presse reported on Tuesday.

The MoU was signed in the Tunisian capital of Tunis between Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Neila Nouira Gonji and Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, minister of state for South and Central Asia, North Africa, United Nations and the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom.

Tunisia has set up a program that aims to produce up to 35 percent of domestic needs from renewable energies during the period 2022 to 2025, the Tunisian minister said on the sidelines of the signing ceremony, adding that "the MoU is an opportunity to take advantage of the British expertise in this field."

For his part, the British official said that "the United Kingdom now wants to be the largest foreign investor in the energy sector in Tunisia." Enditem
