TUNIS, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia and the World Bank signed Monday an additional financing agreement worth 23.8 million U.S. dollars to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic, said the Tunisian Ministry of Economy and Planning.
The second round of additional financing will further strengthen clinical, emergency and surgical care capacity in the country, the ministry said in a statement.
Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Saied and World Bank Country Manager for Tunisia Alexandre Arrobbio inked the deal in the presence of Tunisian Minister of Health Ali Mrabet.
Saied stressed the solidity of the financial and technical cooperation between Tunisia and the World Bank, hailing the international organization as one of the most important partners in Tunisia's economic and social development.
An initial 20 million-dollar project approved by the World Bank in 2020 helped Tunisia to purchase personal protective equipment, and the additional financing of 100 million dollars in 2021 supported the purchase and deployment of vaccines for over 50 percent of the country's population, the minister added.
For his part, Arrobbio said that the World Bank is ready to continue providing necessary support for Tunisia. Enditem
