TOKYO -- The Ishikawa Prefecture region in central Japan has been rocked by a series of earthquakes over the past two days, with the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warning that further temblors could be imminent.

An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.4 rocked the prefecture on Sunday at around 3:00 p.m. local time, with six people left injured by the quake that registered lower 6 on Japanese intensity scale that peaks at 7. (Japan-Quakes-Ishikawa Prefecture)

VIENTIANE -- China and Laos have for the first time achieved the two-way transmission of electricity since the two countries' grid connectivity project was launched 12 years ago.

The Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Station in northern Laos successfully sent electricity to Yunnan Province in Southwest China on Monday.

In order to help consume the surplus hydropower in Laos during the rainy seasons, China Southern Power Grid (CSG) and Electricite du Laos (EDL) signed a 115 kV power trade agreement in March. (Laos-China-Hydropower Station)

PHNOM PENH -- The second phase restoration work on the Ta Ong Bridge at the Angkor Archaeological Park in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province has been completed, the Apsara National Authority (ANA) said in a news release on Monday.

Loeu Channora, an archaeologist at the ANA's Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, said the project focused on the southern part of the bridge, reinforcing its collapsed portions and restoring the dragon-styled hand railings in the length of 70 meters. MANILA -- The steady uptick in the COVID-19 infections in the Philippines signals the start of the peak of cases, the Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

"Right now, (we see) that the number of cases is continuously increasing," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire told a television interview. "We can see that this is really the start in the peak in the number of cases." (Philippines-COVID-19) Enditem
