BERLIN, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich strengthened its squad for the upcoming season after signing Sadio Mane from Premier League outfit Liverpool, the German record champions announced in an official statement on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and will stay with the Bavarians until June 2025.

"We are happy that we were able to sign Sadio Mane. We are convinced that he will give our fans a lot of joy with his spectacular way of playing in the years to come. He is ambitious and keen to win more titles," said Bayern Munich chairman Oliver Kahn.

Mane played since 2016 for Liverpool where he provided 90 goals in overall 196 competitive appearances. With the Reds, he clinched the 2019 Champions League title and the UEFA Super Cup. In the same year, Mane was named Africa's Player of the Year. Bayern's new arrival is since 2012 part of Senegal's national team and marked 33 goals in 91 international caps.

"I am very happy to finally be with Bayern Munich. We had a lot of talks, and I felt a great interest in this big club from the start. So, there was no doubt in my mind right from the start. This is the right time for this challenge. I want to achieve a lot with this club, also internationally," Mane told the club's official website.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer emphasized the importance of the transfer for the Bundesliga and Bayern, by saying that: "Sadio Mane is a world star who underlines the radiance of FC Bayern and increases the attractiveness of the entire Bundesliga. It is for such unique football players that the fans come to the stadiums. It is great that our board of directors, led by Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic, were able to conduct such a player like Sadio Mane to Bayern."

Title holders Bayern Munich clash with Leipzig in the Supercup on July 30 before encountering Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt at the Bundesliga season opener on August 5. Enditem
