WINDHOEK, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's newly appointed football head coach, Collin Benjamin on Wednesday announced a provisional 30-man squad for the 2022 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup, scheduled to take place in Durban in July.

Benjamin included a mixture of veterans and identified new talent with "great potential" to the squad.

"Any player that is good enough, is old enough to represent the senior team. We are assessing and working closely with the new editions but I am confident in saying they have great potential and have shown massive commitment since the get-go," said Benjamin.

He further welcomed COSAFA's decision to increase squad sizes from the previous 20 to 23, saying that "the more the merrier".

"COVID times are tough and have proven to take a great toll on teams, and on top of that are other cases like loss of form and injuries. This came without a doubt as a grand boost and we applaud the organizing team," he added.

The regional showpiece kicks off on July 5, although Namibia's Brave Warriors are set to only lock horns with Madagascar in the quarterfinals on July 17.

The COSAFA Cup is an annual tournament for teams from Southern Africa organized by the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations. Enditem
