Vietnam reports 653 new COVID-19 cases

HANOI, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded 653 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, down by 87 from Thursday, according to its Ministry of Health.

All the new infections were domestically transmitted in 38 provinces and cities.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi was the pandemic hotspot with 162 new cases recorded on Friday, followed by the central city of Da Nang with 47 and the northern Yen Bai province with 42.

Also on Friday, health authorities of the southern An Giang province reported 986 previously detected COVID-19 infections.

The infections brought the total tally to 10,742,234 with 43,084 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 9,637,275 COVID-19 patients, or nearly 90 percent of the infections, have so far recovered.

Nearly 228.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including over 203.8 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry. Enditem
