DAKAR, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese Sports Minister Matar Ba and Chinese Ambassador to Senegal Xiao Han launched on Tuesday afternoon in Dakar the rehabilitation works of four stadiums in Senegal, financed by China.

The four stadiums are Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar, Aline Sitoe Diatta in Ziguinchor, Lamine Gueye in Kaolack and Ely Manel Fall in Diourbel.

Several administrative and political authorities as well as the sports world attended the ceremony.

Matar Ba said that the rehabilitation project of the four stadiums is "another manifestation of the quality, dynamism, depth and effectiveness of the relations of friendship and brotherhood between Senegal and China."

He thanked China for the invaluable support to Senegal's development efforts in most areas.

The Chinese Ambassador, Xiao Han, said China has always regarded sports cooperation as a key area of cooperation with Senegal, and the fruitful results of cooperation have benefited generations of Senegalese people.

Built by China in the 1980s, the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium, which was originally called the Friendship Stadium, now has very dilapidated facilities, after some 40 years of use. With this rehabilitation project, the largest sports infrastructure in Senegal will be very modern.

The rehabilitation of the four stadiums is entrusted to China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd (CSCEC). Enditem
