RIO DE JANEIRO, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Former midfielder Kaka has lent his support to the idea of a foreign Brazil manager.

The South American giants have never had a non-Brazilian head coach but, according to media, the local confederation could be tempted to break with tradition following the departure of current boss Tite in December.

"I don't see any problem with having a foreign manager for the national team," Kaka told the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo. "The most important thing is the selection process, which is not set in stone. And it should be a long-term project."

Tite, who took charge of Brazil in August 2016, has said he will step down from the role following this year's World Cup in Qatar.

Among those touted as a possible replacement include Pep Guardiola, though the Spaniard has so far denied having any interest in the position.

Kaka's comments come as he plans to begin a career in coaching, five years after ending his playing days.

The 40-year-old completed his Brazilian coaching badges earlier this year and is now in the final stages of finishing an administration course with the European football governing body UEFA.
